How to create an aromatic garden in your kitchen

The kitchen can be your home garden with herbs. And the scrub jar can be the perfect container for them!

If you give them light, heat, water, a suitable soil and little attention, the herbs are very easy to grow at home and will delight you with their fragrance every day.

Even if you do not have a generous space, you can build your own aromatic garden in the kitchen. It is important to choose those plants that do not require special conditions and difficult care measures, but can grow happily in pots. Use only organic soil, no chemicals.

A great idea is to recycle the large jars left over from skin care products, such as exfoliants or body creams, because they have a wide opening. Thus, after consuming the product, with a little patience and creativity, they can become a home for herbs in your kitchen!

Place the seeds in moist soil, at a depth 3-4 times the diameter of the seed, to germinate properly. Lightly spray water with a spray can and cover the pot with plastic wrap or a glass plate to create a mini-greenhouse.

The main needs of herbs

Basil needs a few hours of sunshine a day, oily and loose soil. It does not require fertilizers, but must be watered often. Be careful not to let the roots get wet at night, so they should be watered in the morning or early in the day.

Thyme should be watered less often and only if the soil is dry. Too much water lowers the concentration of volatile oil and, implicitly, the aroma.

Rosemary needs large, but not very deep pots. It does not need water until a few days, when the soil is dry, but it needs a lot of sun.

Mint needs a wide-mouthed, deep pot, and a soil of organic compost mixed with sand or fine gravel. It must be watered frequently and does not tolerate puddles.

Dill needs sun, light is essential and directly influences the amount of aromatic oils in the plant, and a fertile soil. Grows well in compost mixed with flower soil.

Parsley is a sensitive plant, the right place being a shady one with indirect light. It needs a fertile, sandy soil and must be constantly watered with a little water, so that the soil is always slightly moist.

Lovage is very unpretentious and can last for many years in pots even without fertilization, if the soil is refreshed annually, on the surface, with a new and nutritious layer. It should be watered regularly, especially on very hot days.
